Early Season Race Reports
29th March 2009
BEC riders have been out over the past couple of weeks working hard and building fitness for the coming season. Last saturday in the SCCU sporting 10Mile TT Shaun Kennedy rode an impressive 24:02 coming in 5th and beating Keith Coffey by 44 seconds (for full results go to www.cyclingtimetrials.org.uk). In the second half of the SCCU sporting weekend, Shaun went on to ride a 58:00 for the 25Mile hilly course, while Keith suffered a disappointing puncture.
James Hughes opened his seasons Road Racing today, competing in the SERRL Road Race near Ashford. Of the 80Km mainly flat event he said "I rode well and broke away a few times, but the course just wasn't hilly enough and it ended in a bunch sprint which I'm never any good at. Still at least it was good training for Good Friday".
Also today, Russell Beckett led a group of riders including Alastair Mitchell, new recruit Rich Guy and potential recruit Misha on a 35Mile club run. Russell said "It was good to get out although the weather was still cold. We met up at Amen Corner, Tooting and rode to Box Hill making sure to stop for tea at the top".
Next week see's Simon Hawkesworth entering his first race, on the closed circuit of Fowlmead Country Park. James and Keith C will be riding the Surrey League Event at Bletchingley.
Meanwhile, Paddy Williams was seen training this weekend, he said "I'm working hard to set up a cycling club at my school, so probably won't be around much this season".
